GLOBAL GIS POSITIONING

Makai Voyager has georeferencing capabilities on a global scale. Users can view their data from any elevation. Large global features as well as very fine resolution data (e.g., 20 centimeter rock) can be visualized. Accurate lighting allows users to set the sunlight for any date and time.

GIS & Data Fusion
BATHYMETRY

Makai Voyager is capable of incorporating and visualizing bathymetry data. Bathymetry images can be imported as GeoTIFFs or raw x,y,z data can be imported and gridded within Makai Voyager to create shaded relief maps. A variety of lighting, color, and seafloor contouring options can be interactively controlled by the user.

MEASUREMENT TOOLS

Makai Voyager has a number of tools, such as a ruler for measuring distances (either using a great circle or a rhumb in metric or English units), a profile view tool to view the elevation or slope along a path, and a text tool to place georeferenced markers.

TSUNAMI INUNDATION

3D buildings and objects can be imported into Makai Voyager, and flooding or tsunami inundation can be modeled to better understand flood patterns.

FUSE DATA

GIS imagery and elevation from multiple sources in different projections can be imported into Makai Voyager. High resolution GeoTIFFs or multiple LOD files can be created for viewing or export.

IMPORT GIS DATA

Makai Voyager natively supports over 18 different GIS formats, including GeoTIFF, U.S. Geological Survey Digital Elevation Model (.dem), ESRI ArcGIS Binary Grid (.adf), and many others. An add-on module provides support for over 140 different GIS vector formats.

MULTITHREADING

Makai Voyager takes advantage of multithreading technology of modern processors when fusing multiple forms of data. In the example above, several high resolution bathymetry swaths are combined into a single image for viewing.

IMPORT 3D OBJECTS

3D buildings and objects are easily shared with Google Earth using the Keyhole Markup Lanuage files (.kml).

SUPPORT FOR VOLUME DATA

Makai Voyager provides native support for true volumetric (voxel) data varies spatially in 3D (i.e., x,y,z), and in time (4D). Additionally, multiple variables can be assigned to each voxel and simultaneously displayed (i.e., 5D).

VIEW TIME SERIES

The movie above first displays how sea surface elevation changes over time. The temperature variable is displayed volumetrically, and the water masses within a specific range of temperature values (green) are displayed from one end of the temperature spectrum to the other. The salinity variable is later added (white) and a slice through the temperature variable is created showing the 3D rotation of the slicing tool.

MULTIPLE VOLUMES

Dynamically view multiple volumes above and below the ocean surface. The image above displays precipitation volumes in the sky, a hazardous plume below the ocean surface to the left, and a sonar scan from a surface vessel in the center. Note that terrain elevation, imagery, and bathymetry are also shown.

METEOROLOGY

Makai Voyager can display data from meteorology and weather forecasting models that change in time and space. Users can "fly through" the storm to create a virutal presentation of the storm in action.

OCEAN CURRENTS

Dynamic ocean currents that change with time can be displayed in Makai Voyager. Seed points and seed rakes can be interactively placed by the user to observe how particles would be carried through the water by the currents.

WIND VECTORS

Wind velocities can be visualized using streamlines or pathlines; colored arrows and spheres show direction and speed. The seed rake tool allows the user to add points at user-definied intervals in space and time to better understand wind patterns.

FLOW MEASUREMENT TOOLS

Makai Voyager includes a number of tools for the user to visualize and understand how the flow data changes over time and interacts with other geospatial data.

FLOW FIELDS

Flow fields can be used to view how flow data interacts with other meteorological phenomena, including 3D volumes output from numerical simulations.
