MakaiLay
Video
"See Below" using
the finest At-Sea Cable Lay
System
This
18-second movie shows a cableship making a turn and then changing from
LightWeight Protected cable (orange) to Single Armor cable (green) during one
hour. The resulting cable lay is a dynamic event that MakaiLay's robust
cable model can handle, but less-comprehensive programs cannot. Each cable shape
shows a "snapshot" taken every five minutes.
For the first
time, cable engineers can "see below" to visualize how any dynamic event affects
placement of their cable onto the seabed. Such knowledge improves their ability
to lay cables that should be reliable for many years.
This movie
was made using the MakaiLay 3-D viewer. MakaiLay also
provides a host of accurate numerical data showing the actual placement
conditions of the cable. This data can be used immediately by the cable
engineer, and is logged to provide as-laid records for the cable owner.
